Spinlight closes the gap in early education.
Champaign, Illinois, March 20, 2013 — Literacy is essential in the modern world. It determines the jobs you choose, the positions you achieve and the income you can expect to earn over your lifetime. And yet, many children never receive the help they need at the early stages to develop critical reading skills. This week award-winning app developer Spinlight Studio took the wraps off a new game designed to change that. Packed with 200 three-letter words, Gappy Learns Reading provides the perfect adventure for pint-sized learners ready to cross the reading divide.
According to research published in the Children’s Literacy Initiative, only 10% of students who read poorly at the end of first grade will ever read proficiently in later grades. Now the creative minds behind AlphaTots Alphabet, the Parents’ Choice Award-winning alphabet app, have put their full force behind a new game designed to close the gap, giving little learners the tools they need to read at an early age.
In Gappy Learns Reading, the goal is simple — players spell words to close gaps and help the story’s loveable hero hop home. From dusty deserts to distant planets, little readers will progress through four different levels, learning to identify letters and spell words successfully all on their own. But just because the game is heavy on the learning doesn’t mean it’s light on the fun.
“We’re big kids at heart,” says Matt Hutton, Spinlight’s CEO and co-founder. “And that means there’s always a major element of fun in every game we release.” In Gappy Learns Reading, it’s a creative reward system designed to keep curious learners coming back for more.
With every adventure they complete, players are rewarded with one of 56 different parts that let them redesign Gappy’s house — anyway they want. From a cozy cabin, to a space house, to a castle with a gingerbread house, there are over 720 creative combinations. And each time they come back for another part, they’ll be getting more than a metal roof or candy cane fence, they’ll be gaining the essential learning tools they need to build a better life.
Gappy Learns Reading, the company’s tenth official title, is being released simultaneously on the iOS, Android and Mac platform. To learn more about their long list of award-winning education titles, including AlphaTots Alphabet, Operation Math and Geography Drive USA, visit spinlight.com.
